How to choose the color modification film for PVC, PET, and TPU?

2023-11-15

Sort the three materials according to cost first

PVC → PET → TPU

PVC: Simply put, it is a resin, abbreviated as polyvinyl chloride. Pure PVC is average in terms of heat resistance, stability, and tension. However, with the addition of corresponding formulas, the performance of PVC can be improved to a higher level. In terms of color, there are many options, especially for high saturation colors. Choosing PVC is not a problem, but after being applied for a long time, the film body will fade, crack, and adhesive will fall off.

PET: To put it bluntly, it is a polyester resin with high flatness, brightness, and no orange peel when applied. The PT color changing film has a honeycomb air guide groove, which is very good in mechanical properties. The impact strength is 3 to 5 times that of other films, and it has good folding resistance, oil resistance, fat resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance, most solvents resistance, high temperature resistance, low temperature resistance, and can block ultraviolet radiation to protect the car paint.

TPU: To put it bluntly, it is a thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer, which is the best material on the market and also the most expensive automotive film. Although there are few color variations, it inherits all the advantages of invisible car clothing, with good toughness, wear resistance, cold resistance, water resistance, weather resistance, and other advantages. It has extremely high characteristics in waterproof, moisture permeability, mold resistance, and UV resistance.

In terms of service life, under the same conditions and environment, the service life of PVC is about 2-3 years, PET is about 3-5 years, and TPU can be maintained for more than ten years

If you frequently change cars, or if you are a person prone to aesthetic fatigue, Xiaolu suggests choosing PVC instead! Don't choose TPU because the cost of changing the film is too high!

If you are a car owner who is very meticulous and perfectionist, Xiaolu does not recommend choosing TPU color change film because its construction perfection may not meet your expectations. Although it has excellent stretching and retraction properties, it is too thick than PVC film to achieve perfect edges and corners. If you are pursuing safety and hope to protect the car paint in the event of an accident, Xiaolu recommends choosing TPU color change film, Alternatively, apply a layer of PVC color changing film and then apply a layer of invisible car clothing.

Do you have any questions about the color changing film? Would you choose to stick car clothes or change the color film?
