Analysis of the principle and preparation method of matte finish paint protection film(1)

Invisible car films are mostly glossy, appearing as shiny as new when attached to the car. But the trend of younger car owners has led to an increasing demand for personalization. In terms of car film, in addition to color changes, the low-key luxury matte effect is also highly sought after.

There are two types of production methods for traditional matte paint protective films. The first type is to add fillers such as matte powder to the surface coating to give the coating a matte effect. The second type is made by physically imprinting and post-processing the glossy coating.

Recently, some car film brands have started using a new technology - matte self-healing modified resin, because its resin composition is similar to that of self-healing coatings, presenting a more transparent and textured effect than traditional production methods, without reducing the self-healing effect of the coating.

Today, we will learn the principle and preparation method of matte paint protective film. The traditional second type is to use physical imprinting to imprint uneven structures on the coating surface, achieving a matte effect. However, this method is only applicable to UV cured coatings, and currently, the technology of UV cured self-healing coatings is not yet mature and far from achieving the effect of thermal cured self-healing coatings. It cannot be applied to automotive paint protective films, and this article will not discuss it.

The traditional matte effect is generally achieved by adding extinction powder, mostly using gas-phase silica extinction powder. The principle is that during the coating film-forming process, the solvent evaporates and carries the extinction agent onto the surface of the coating, improving the roughness of the coating surface to enhance surface scattering and reduce gloss.
